Materials

• Puritan Mercerized Crochet Cotton or Puritan Star Spangled Crochet Cotton (Article 40) — size not printed; choose a mercerized cotton crochet thread that matches the finished size
• Yardage: 1 ball each White, Yellow and Forest Green as printed — check the ball band for yardage
• Tapestry needle, rustproof pins and starch for blocking
• Hook: Start with a 1.8 mm (US 6) steel hook — the printed hook is a No. 6 steel — and change size to reach the printed diameter.

Instructions

1. With Green ch 8, join to form a ring, * ch 12, sc in ring, repeat from * 6 times, ch 6, dtr (yo 3 times) in ring (this brings thread in position for next round), cut Green.
2. Rnd 2: Join Yellow in any loop, * ch 5, 2 tr in 1st st of ch, repeat from * once, sl st in same space with 1st 2 tr to form petal, * work 2 more petals in same manner, sl st in 1st petal to form group of 3 petals, sc in same loop, ch 5, tr in 1st st of ch, sc in next loop, ch 5, 2 tr in 1st st of ch, sl st in center of 3rd petal, ch 5, 2 tr in 1st st of ch, sl st in base of petal, repeat from * all around ending to correspond and joining last petal to 1st petal, ch 5, tr in 1st st of ch, join, fasten off.
3. Doilies make wonderful gifts. The Sea Shell can be made in 3 hours.
4. Rnd 3: Join Gold & Silver Spangle or White in joining and working in back of petals, ch 3, dc in same space, ch 5, 2 dc in next sc, * ch 7, 2 dc in next sc in back of next group of petals, ch 5, 2 dc in next sc in back of same group of petals, repeat from * all around ending with ch 4, tr in 3rd st of ch.
5. Rnd 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, * ch 5, sc in next loop, ch 5, 3 dc in next loop, repeat from * all around ending with ch 5, sc in next loop, ch 5, join in 3rd st of ch.
6. Rnd 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, * ch 5, skip next dc, 3 dc in next dc, ch 5, sc in next sc, ch 5, 3 dc in next dc, repeat from * all around, ending to correspond, join in 3rd st of ch.
