How we test patterns

A pattern is marked as tested only after at least two named testers have worked it from the published instructions and their notes have been incorporated. Until then the pattern page says that testing is in progress.

The testing process

  1. The designer works a complete sample and records yarn, hook, gauge achieved, time taken and any problems.
  2. At least two testers work the pattern from the written instructions only, in the yarn weight specified.
  3. Testers report stitch-count mismatches, unclear rows and sizing differences.
  4. The designer revises the pattern and the technical editor checks the counts and repeats.
  5. The page is updated with tester credits and maker notes, then signed off for publication.
