Sunburst granny square in four colours

The sunburst granny square starts as a sixteen-stitch double crochet circle, grows into rays of paired and tripled double crochet, then squares off with treble crochet corners. Five rounds in worsted yarn make a 6 inch square, and each colour change sits at the start of a new round.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't my sunburst square lie flat?

Round 4 must sit exactly on four evenly spaced ch-1 spaces for the corners. Count three ch-1 spaces between each corner before you begin.

Can I make a sunburst square in one colour?

Yes. Instead of fastening off, slip stitch into the next space to start each round.
