Top-down granny stitch triangle shawl
This triangle shawl is worked top-down in granny stitch rows, growing from a centre corner with an increase cluster at each edge, so every row adds two clusters. Fifty rows of worsted yarn make a 55 inch wingspan and 27 inch depth. Stripe it, or work it in a single self-striping yarn.

Notes before you start
- The turning ch-3 counts as a dc throughout.
- A cluster is 3 dc. Row n has 2n clusters.
- The ch-2 space at the centre becomes the lower point of the shawl.
Shawl
- Ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring.
- Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, 3 dc in ring, turn. (2 clusters)
- Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in top of tch, turn. (4 clusters)

Frequently asked questions
Why does my triangle shawl curve instead of staying straight?
Check that each row begins with 2 dc in the first stitch and ends with 3 dc in the turning chain. Missing an edge increase pulls the top edge into a curve.
How do I add tassels?
Make tassels from 20 wraps of yarn around a 4 in card and attach one to each corner and the point.
