Solid corner-to-corner crochet blanket
Corner to corner, or C2C, crochet builds a square blanket diagonally from small blocks of three double crochet, adding one block per row until the diagonal reaches forty blocks, then removing one per row. This worsted version is about 34 inches square and is the foundation for pixel-graph designs.

Notes before you start
- A block is 3 dc worked into a chain-3 space (or ch-6 at the start of increase rows).
- Row numbers equal the number of blocks in the row during the increase section.
- To make a rectangle, stop increasing on one side only once that edge is long enough.
Increase section
- Row 1: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, turn. (1 block)
- Row 2: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, sl st in ch-3 sp of the block from Row 1, ch 3, 3 dc in same ch-3 sp, turn. (2 blocks)
- Row 3: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, *sl st in ch-3 sp of next block, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp; rep from * across, turn. (3 blocks)
- Rows 4–40: Rep Row 3, adding one block per row. (40 blocks at the end of Row 40)
Decrease section
- Row 41: Sl st in each of first 3 dc and into ch-3 sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, *sl st in ch-3 sp of next block, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp; rep from * across to last block, sl st in ch-3 sp of last block, turn. (39 blocks)
- Rows 42–79: Rep Row 41, working one fewer block each row. (1 block at the end of Row 79)
- Fasten off.
Border
- Rnd 1: Join yarn in any corner. Ch 1, work 3 sc along the side of each block and 3 sc in each corner, sl st in first sc.
- Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around with 3 sc in each corner st, sl st in first sc.
Finishing
- Weave in ends.
- Block by laying flat, pinning the edges straight and misting.

Frequently asked questions
How many blocks are in a C2C blanket?
A square C2C blanket that is 40 blocks wide contains 40 × 40 = 1,600 blocks.
Can I follow a graph with this pattern?
Yes. Read one diagonal of the graph per row, changing colour at the start of any block that changes colour.
