Flower Afghan (1951): vintage crochet pattern

Materials

• Worsted (#4) yarn. American Thread "Dawn" Knitting Worsted was a worsted-weight yarn; substitute any worsted yarn that matches the gauge.
• Colours: 22 oz Black and 3 oz each of 21 assorted colours.
• Original hook: bone crochet hook No. 4 or No. 5.
• Hook: Start with 3.75 mm (US F-5) and change size to match the gauge.

Flower motif

1. 672 motifs, 21 × 32, are required for the afghan.
2. Flower: With any color ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join.
3. Next rnd: Ch 4, 2 tr in same space, leaving last loop of each st on hook, yo and pull through all loops at one time, ch 4, sl st in same space, sl st in next sc, repeat from beginning 7 times (8 petals), fasten off.
4. With Black, join in center of any petal, ch 5, sc in center of next petal, *ch 5, sl st in top of sc just made for picot (corner), ch 5, sc in next petal, ch 5, sc in next petal, repeat from * twice, ch 5, sl st in top of last sc just made, ch 5, join in 1st petal, fasten off.
