How does hook size change amigurumi size?
Stitch height and width grow in proportion to hook and yarn thickness. Working a 20 cm pattern with a 3.5 mm hook instead of 2.5 mm makes it about 28 cm tall, provided you move to a matching thicker yarn.
How do you crochet a ball of a set size?
- Start with 6 single crochet in a magic ring.
- Increase by 6 stitches every round until you reach the widest round from the calculator.
- Work the listed number of even rounds with no increases.
- Decrease by 6 stitches every round, stuffing before the opening gets small.
- Close the last 6 stitches by threading the tail through the front loops and pulling tight.

Why is my ball egg-shaped?
Too many even rounds. Reduce them, or stuff more firmly at the ends.
What stitches per inch should I enter?
Measure single crochet across a flat circle or swatch in your amigurumi yarn; worsted with a 3.5 mm hook is often around 5 per inch.
Does stuffing change size?
Firm stuffing stretches the fabric slightly, adding a few percent to the diameter.
