Ribbed twisted crochet ear warmer headband
This ear warmer is a single ribbed strip of half double crochet worked in the back loops, then folded and interlocked at the ends to create a turban-style twist at the front. It uses about 90 yards of worsted yarn, takes roughly ninety minutes, and stretches to fit most adult heads.

Materials

Notes before you start
- Turning ch-1 does not count as a stitch.
- Measure around your head and subtract 2–3 in for a snug fit; work rows until the strip is that length.
Band
- Ch 18.
- Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (16 hdc)
- Row 2: Ch 1, hdc blo in each st across, turn. (16 hdc)
- Rows 3–50: Rep Row 2. Fasten off, leaving a 15 in (38 cm) tail.
Finishing
- Lay the strip flat, wrong side up, and bring the two short ends together.
- Fold one end in half lengthways so its long edges meet. Fold the other end in half lengthways too.
- Slide the folds into each other so each folded end hooks inside the other, forming the twist.
- Whip stitch through all four layers with the tail. Turn right side out so the seam hides inside the twist.
- Weave in ends.

Frequently asked questions
How wide should an ear warmer be?
4–5 in (10–13 cm) covers the ears for adults. For children, use 12 hdc for about 3.5 in (9 cm).
Can I use chunky yarn?
Yes. With bulky yarn and an 8 mm hook, chain 12 and work fewer rows until the band reaches your measurement.
