Notes before you start

  • Beginning ch-2 does not count as a stitch; work the first hdc into the same stitch as the join.
  • Join each round with a sl st to the first hdc.
  • The crown should lie flat. If it cups, go up a hook size; if it ruffles, go down.

Frequently asked questions

What size is this baby hat?

As written it fits 6–12 months (16–17 in head). Stopping increases one round earlier gives a newborn size.

Can I add a pom-pom safely for a baby?

Pom-poms can come loose and are a choking hazard for babies. Skip them for infants or sew them on very securely and supervise.
